St. Mary's Health Clinics were established toprovide health care services to the uninsured and medically underserved peoplein the Twin Cities and surrounding metro area. The clinics were started in 1992 by theSisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. There are currently nine sponsored clinic locations and 7 Park Nicolletlocations in operation throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the suburbs.
The health care services provided to patients arefree. This includes the patient's visitto the clinic and if additional services are necessary (lab tests, x-rays,diagnostic tests, surgery, etc.), they are also provided to the patientswithout charge through coordinated efforts with area providers. We also provide any needed prescriptionmedication to the patient at no charge. When appropriate, patients are assisted by our staff in applying forgovernment subsidy programs for which they may qualify and accessing othercommunity resources that are available to them.
Licensed physicians and nurses, who volunteer theirtime, staff our clinics as well as the admissions personnel andinterpreters. These clinic volunteerstruly care about the patients, and spend extra time with them to assure thatall of their questions and concerns are addressed. Patients are often aided in accessing othercommunity resources that are available to them. The sponsored clinics all operate in space that is donated for our useby the host facilities. We have numerousspecialty physicians throughout the metro area who see our patients withoutcharge when referred to them by one of our clinic doctors; we also havediscount arrangements with almost all of the area hospitals, anesthesiaproviders, laboratories, radiology groups, etc. We pride ourselves on this community network we have established and thequality health care we are able to provide for our patients because of it.
