The Band playing holiday tunes 12/19/03
Music enriches the lives of all students at Johnson Elementary. Kindergartners come for 50 minutes daily every other week, and all other students for 30 minutes each week. In music children listen carefully, then demonstrate learning by moving, singing, playing instruments, writing and discussing.

The backbone of music instruction
Band 2 - JAJ Band
JAJ Band
is a collection of sturdy songs that demonstrate more than one musical concept. Thanks to our weekly schedule, however, children can share in the joy of seasonal music. Music curriculum also exposes children to relevant social studies content; for example, Minnesota geography in 4th grade, Native Americans in 5th grade, and World Music in 6th
Band 3 - The clarinet section
The clarinet section
grade. Strong emphasis is also placed on social skills of invitation, friendly touch and inclusion. Life skills of reading, finding pages, using indexes and following instruction are reinforced as well.

Band is offered to 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Students receive 30 minutes of pullout instruction per week. Inclusion in mixed instrument
Band 4 - Flutes, saxaphone and Mrs. Peterson on the trombone
Flutes, saxaphone and Mrs. Peterson on the trombone
ensemble is based on personal progress. Upon mastering lesson 10, students receive 30 additional minutes of ensemble play; when lesson 17 is mastered, that time increases to 50 minutes of ensemble.

The year of music learning culminates in 3 end of year concerts: primary, intermediate and band. These typically occur in May.
