Wilder Services

THERAPIST

A Wilder therapist is available to offer individual and family therapy sessions at school.  The therapist can help children and/or families:  identify where they are having difficulties, recognize feelings and safe ways to express them, work on communication, find ways to problem solve, look at better choices for behavior, and see their strengths and abilities.  The children may come to therapy for a variety of reasons:  change in the family divorce/re-marriage, moves, new sibling, sadness/depression, worry/anxiety, having a hard time controlling behavior, etc.   The therapist is also available for teacher consultation and classroom observation.

FAMILY OUTREACH WORKER

A Wilder Family Outreach Worker is available to help parents and children in several ways.  Some of these include:  parenting concerns and needs, access to community resources, problem solving, communication between school and home, and setting up strategies for children who are having difficulties at school (upon which the parent, student and teacher agree).  The Family Outreach Worker is also available to meet with families in their homes as well as school.

SCHOOL GROUPS

The therapist and family outreach worker often work as a team to provide group experiences to children.  They lead small group and classroom groups on a variety of topics such as:  social skills, self-esteem, Kindergarten adjustment, transition to middle school, anger management, and team building.

PRIMARY PROJECT

PrimaryProject is a program that helps students in grades K-3 feel moreconfident and comfortable at school by spending weekly one-on-one timewith a trained child associate. Students chosen for these services are beginning to show signs of school adjustment difficulties; they are not children at high risk or who have significant problems.
